The goal | Acquiring knowledge's about feedstuffs, its classification, ways of production, processing and conservation, factors that affect feed spoilage, about feeding of certain species and categories of animals (cattle, sheep, goats, horses, pigs, swine, poultry, rabbit, dogs, cats and fish) as well as in clinical nutrition–connection between nutrition and diseases and the ways of prevention and therapy. | |||
The outcome | The student should understand the basics of nutrition, recognize feedstufs, their characteristics and importance, identify conditions favorable for feed spoilage and recognize spoiled feed, understands principles of nutrition of different species-categories of animals, be able to formulate rations, organize feeding and identify irregularities and problems, propose and formulate dietetic measures | |||

Contents of lectures | Nutrients. Nutritive value of feed – evaluation. Feed, definition, classification, factors that affect quality. Spoilage and toxicity of feed. Requirements. Nutrition of cattle, sheep and goat, horses, swines, poultry, dogs and cats, rabbits, fur animals, wild animals, lab animals and fish. Clinical nutrition. Diseases connected to nutrition errors. Nutritive therapy. Special dietetics. | |||
Contents of exercises | Feed sampling and basic analyses. Starch equivalent. Feedstufs recognition. Hygienic evaluation of feed. Ration formulation. Analyses and correction of rations. Calculative analyses of mixtures. Calculative analyses & correction of mixtures. Analyses and correction of meals that caused the problem. Formulation of specific meals according to health condition & according to special requirements. | |||
