The goal | Acquiring knowledge on morphological, structural, physiological and antigenic characteristics of patogenic microorganisms as well as the methods of their isolation and identification.
The outcome | Students should be able to correctly perform the sampling of suspected material, determine the morphological traits of microorganisms, perform sterilization methods and apply adequate biosafety measures during work with infectious agents. Students should also be capable to perform isolation of microorganisms in pure culture, apply various standard microbiological methods, examine their susceptibility to antibiotics as well as to determine their antigenic characteristics by using standard immunological methods. Students should be acquainted with the application of standard virological methods, i.e. isolation of viruses in cell culture and chicken embryos and their confirmation by various standard methods.
