The goal | Introduction to characteristics of horse breeding, rearing and nursing for different types of racing and sport performance, i.e. the gallop, trot, equestrian sport: show jumping, dressage, eventing, harnessing, recreational riding, etc. Training in practical skills for handling, restraining and managing the horses. | |||
The outcome | Student has to learn the basic principles of breeding management, assisting in foaling and rearing of foals, and learn basic priciples of sport horse rearing, to obtain skills in handling and restraining of horse, to learn the basics of feeding, grooming and nursing, to obtain knowledge of necessary equipment and use of equipment for handling and managing of different types of sport horses. | |||

Contents of lectures | The most important performance horse breeds. Behavioral patterns as a basis for horse breeding and training . The basic principles of rearing and feeding. Sexual cycle, covering and assisted reproduction, pregnant mare - care, foaling, care of the newborn foal. Rearing of foals and speciphic conditions of training, feeding and water supply regime depending on sport discipline. Skin, hair and hoof management. Management of foals and health care of sport horses. | |||
Contents of exercises | Training of practical skills necessary for horse handling on stud farms, horse clubs, and hippodrome, work at equine clinic, i.e., feeding, grooming, equipment, saddling, harnessing and training (30). | |||
