The goal | Introduction to canine and feline selective breeding, biological characteristics of dogs and cats, principles and organization of breeding and nursing, breeding methods and selection for health improvement and increasing working performances. | |||
The outcome | Student has to obtain the knowledge in specific organization of canine and feline breeding; to learn to estimate constitution upon breed standard, i.e. to estimate the morphological, physiological, and psychological faults, to perform the body condition scoring and estimate temperament in the scope of healthcare and breeding value. | |||
Contents | ||||
Contents of lectures | Origin and domestication of dogs and cats, FCI and FIFE classification of dog and cat breeds. Canine and feline reproduction and rearing of offspring. Selection based on constitution, working performance, origin and progeny. Predisposition of dog and cat breeds to some hereditary diseases. Genetics and health control program. Breeding methods applied in canine and feline selection. | |||
