The goal | To learn the basic methods and techniques in experimental pharmacology and toxicology. In order to know the way of selection of adequate research methods and its proper application. To learn specific statistical methods of processing the results obtained in pharmacological and toxicological research. | |||
The outcome | As a result of this course students must learn all of the most important methods of experimental pharmacological and toxicological investigations and that the results obtained in the study knows to analyze by the appropriate statistical methods. | |||

Contents of lectures | General Part: Calculations in Pharmacology and Toxicology; Solutions: molar concentration, percentage concentration, dose determination and dose calculation; Methods for testing the dose (concentration) and effect of the drug (toxin). Methods of pharmacological testing in anesthetized and non-anesthetized animals; Test methods on isolated organs. Caenorhabditis elegans as an experimental model. Equipment for testing on isolated organs, measuring isometric and isotonic contractions. Special Part Experimental Pharmacology: Trials of CNS-acting Drugs. Trials of drugs acting on the peripheral nervous system. Analgesic test methods. Cardiovascular drug testing methods. Respiratory drug test methods. Investigations of the effects of drugs acting on the gastrointestinal tract. Tests for uterine-acting drugs. Testing of drugs that affect the urinary system. Tests for parasite-acting drugs. Pharmacokinetic experimental models. Special part Experimental toxicology: Acute toxicity test methods, subacute toxicity, chronic toxicity; Inhalation toxicity test methods; Dermal toxicity testing methods; Ocular toxicity testing methods; Dermal irritation test methods; Reproductive toxicity testing methods; Test methods for teratogenicity and genotoxicity; Carcinogenicity testing methods. | |||
